Just wasting taxpayers money
Some people in Wisconsin are crowing about some referendums that were passed yesterday that supported withdrawal of American troops from Iraq. Whether you are for or against the war is an opinion in which you are entitled to.
However, local governments wasting taxpayers money to put these meaningless items on local ballots is disgusting. It is a case of small time politicians thinking they are more important than they truly are. If I disagree with a federal issue, I call my congressman or senator. My alderman can't do squat about it. I doubt he would get through faster than I would.
So some small communities agree with pulling out troops. Against fact and logic, they decide that is the right thing to do. Here is what one person said:
Really? More people are dying every day. Actually less people are dying every day. Fact is, less people die in Iraq every day that when Saddam was in power. But we cannot let facts get in the way.
Even the wording of the referendum is vague: Should the United States provide a timeline for achieving goals in Iraq and set a target date of Dec. 31 for the withdrawal of all troops in Iraq?
Ok, like there are no goals set or a timeline for them? The Army Generals are not idiots. I am sure they have timelines. Simply put, it is none of our business what those timelines are. What most people fail to realize is the number of Iraqi troops that have been trained and are currently leading missions. I cannot say for sure but sounds like some goals have been achieved on some sort of timeline. Second, you cannot set a date for pulling out troops when you are at war. That is like sending out a message to thieves that you are going on vacation for a month in July. Come visit our house then.
But we can do everything possible to send a message to our enemy that we support undermining the moral and efforts of American soldiers. That is all these referendums do. They help the enemy when a group of narrow minded adults make a noise about something they do not have the facts on. Sad.
I also would like to see the total number of votes casted for these referendums. What percentage of registered voters turned out? Seeing how there were no serious races on the ballot in most counties, voter turnout was probably pretty low. Using the magic of the internet that 2300 people voted, of which 1600 voted for the referendum. The population of Shorewood is 13763 (as of 2000) according to a Wikipedia site. So basically 12% of the people of Shorewood say withdrawal is a good thing and that is victory!
Let look at the real picture here. The war in Iraq is not as bad as the crybabies and national media would have you believe. It is not fantastic either. People it is war. But with the way things are going, we will most likely see troop withdrawals happening by the end of the year. The Brits are going to pare down the number of soldiers there. Do you think they just decided that on a whim? Of course not. The number of Iraqi soldiers grows by the day. They lead the majority of the missions against the terrorists now. When the time comes to bring our men home, it will be the decision of those fighting, not the bleeding hearts at home. That is how it should be.
But of course, they will claim victory for that too.
I had to comment on this story as well from our local paper:
'Ghost rider' run over by car
Waukesha - A 16-year-old Waukesha boy was injured while "ghost riding" and run over by his own sport utility vehicle, police said today.[idiots name retracted] was traveling north on Avalon Drive near Sunnyside Drive when he put the vehicle in neutral and climbed onto the hood of a 1997 Ford Explorer, said Capt. Mike Babe. As he sat sideways on the hood, passenger [idiot's 'friend'], 18, also of Waukesha, thought the SUV was moving too fast on the incline and used his hand to hit the brakes, Babe said. Moron then slid off the hood, fell in front of the vehicle and was run over. The incident occurred 2 p.m. on Saturday. Waste of skin was taken by ambulance to Waukesha Memorial Hospital, where he remains in fair condition.Ghost riding is an activity made popular in Oakland, Calif., by rapper E-40 and involves getting out of a moving car and dancing on the hood.
If he was killed, he could have been a front runner for the Darwin award. I think they should revoke the kid's license (if he had one) for 5 years to teach him a lesson. Same for the dipwad's friend.
Later peeps. Rock on with your bad self!

You are wrong. They need to revoke his license forever and maybe think about taking his parents.
As for the war. I don't think we can ever be totally out of there. Someone will always have to be there to babysit.
We don't need to revoke thier licenses. We need to tell his friend that if they want to go ghost riding again, when he falls off and gets run over, that friend needs to put the car in reverse. Make sure that he finishes the job and removes him from the gene pool.
Why put the war in Iraq in a referendum for local government? This is a federal issue. Besides, they get opinion poll results every other day. Why waste the time on another?
Yeah, AWE, our troops will always be there. Just like Germany. Some people just don't understand that part either.
Erik, my drivers ed teacher actaully made that comment in class. Said if hit someone you are better off popping it in reverse and killing them because you will be sued.
Yes, Aleta, AOL is a great analogy. Only those who have a true interest go to vote on these items.
Wow, this was a total Blonde like response to everyone.
There should never be a timeline set for pulling out of anywhere, ever!
Good point Erik, that referendum should have never neem put out there.
So is the story blaming the rapper E-40 for making this doofus ghost ride? Is it shown in a video? Not only should the kid's license be revoked, he should be sterilized to keep his kind from multiplying.
