A traditional Opening Day

The tents were up on Friday. Lined up, side by side, in the parking lot. By 10 am the lot will be hopping. Cars pulling in. Smoke blowing around as the charcoal burns. Hats flying around. People huddled up underneath the tent only going outside to pee or turn the brats.

See, it is raining and blowing in Milwaukee today. Typical for the Milwaukee Brewers first home game. The difference this year is that people can go inside to watch the game and be warm. Out of the rain and wind.

I won't be part of the masses in the lot this year getting drunk and having a great time. No, my spot in Hell dictates that I be sober. Though I have surrounded myself with free beer over the last month and not partaking in a single drop, I do not think I could do baseball without beer.

Baseball is the most social of all sports. The action comes and goes. You can hold conversations with people during the game. If something happens, you stop cheer the team and go right back to what you were saying. It is a beautiful thing when combined with a cold brewski.

So I am staying away from Miller Park. I will think of the memories of freezing my ass off in the parking lot getting warm inside. Those memories will have to suffice for today.

I must say, I think this is the crappiest opening day in a long time. Well, we'll just have to make a point to get to a game when the weather is nicer.
In the meantime, our cafeteria is having "tailgate specials" for lunch. My curiosity is piqued.

Opening day + Miller Park = Hell for you.

I will try to pick up your slack again tonight and help out a drinking establishment

AWE, I commend you in the support you are providing. I am sure some local brewery workers are happy that they can feed their families.

We were supposed to have a 'tailgate party' at work for lunch today. You bought tickets for lunch (brats and burgers) with the proceeds going to charity. They cancelled it and left most of the building with nothing to eat for lunch. I knew I should have brought something from home.
